Report from Rick Fletcher:
We had a limited booking at the Bermagui Hotel for 20 persons so it was mostly regular Sapphire Coast Chapter participants this year. As usual we had a photo stop at Cuttagee and then moved on the hotel at Bermi. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to ALL from the Sapphire Coast Chapter.
TR Register Victoria Pre-Christmas Dinner Report from David Ferguson:
30 Victorian members finally let out of lockdown and allowed to get together after the best part of 6 months locked up. It was great to catch up again and hopefully 2021 will allow us to have many more social gatherings.

Sapphire Coast Chapter - 11 Nov 20

QLD 1st November - The first Sunday of the Month is always a Run from the Gold coast.

There was a good turn out of Triumphs from the TSOAQ & the TR Register. Firstly a short drive for coffee then, into the Magical Mystery touring drive to Tambourine for a picnic in the park. Tambourine Mountain is a jewel in the mountains West of the Gold Coast. It was a great day after the big storms in SE Queensland on the Saturday. We hope everyone survived that OK. It was good to see Rob & Judy out in the TR. All enjoyed the drive and the picnic in the park. It's going to be hard to go back to having lunch at a restaurant!

It's so easy to relax and have a chat and to right the wrongs of the world. Of course the Triumphs are always a focus of attention and a source of discussion.
Regards - Paul Bingham

Some sad news: ROSS KERSLAKE has passed away. Ross, who was the proprietor of Vanguard Triumph Wholesalers in Lilydale, on the outskirts of Melbourne, passed away on the 29th September, 2020.

Originally a school–teacher, Ross ventured into selling parts for Vanguards and Triumphs and became widely known for his range of parts carried. Ross will be sadly missed by his family and by Triumph enthusiasts around Australia as well as those those who got to know him through his business interest in Standard Vanguard and Triumph marques.

Many Register members have probably acquired parts from Ross down through the years. From what I was told, Ross had been ill for sometime.

ADDENDUM: Ross was very involved with the first Register Concours held in Victoria. The 1983 Concours was conducted at Lilydale, and due to heavy rain Ross was responsible for organizing the Chirnside Shopping Centre undercover car park for our display of sidescreen TRs.    See the 1983 Concours
                                                                                Graeme White

Graham Brohan also added "I knew Ross for over 40 years and attended many events with him including the Vanguard Car Club annual gatherings to places like Shepperton, Leeton, Hay, Albury (many times). Also usually involving the purchase of heaps of parts in those early days. We were also members of the Standard Vanguard Club & the Enthusiasts Guild."

We regret to advise that Jessie Maroya passed away on 4th February 2020. A remarkable woman who will also be greatly missed.

Paul McEwen sent in the following:

Hi to all the South COAST MEMBERS, Just wondering if you are all safe down there . We are OK here, about 40 kms from Braidwood, but getting extreme smoke and haze and having record maximum high temperatures, but you are worse off I know. I have sent a photo of Silverstone 1956. I liked it so much I had to share it. 3 Bentleys, 3 Austin Healeys, 2 TR2,1 XK120,1 Swallow Doretti1, Healey Silverstone,1 Morgan1 Aston Martin, and I am stumped on the rest... (over to viewers?)

Terry Hicks has suggested: C Type Jaguar, MGA, Fraser Nash, Railton, ERA and Alfa Romeo.
Bob Watters added: The car on the right in the rear row is a Fraser Nash Le Mans Replica, one of only 34 that were made. These were factory made copies of the Fraser Nash Le Mans car of 1948 and were made in the early 1950s but in a strange twist there were replicas of these cars built in the 1960s and 70s. These became known as Le Mans Replicas Replicas, strange but true.

And some more input from Viv Paine who I'm pleased to see has rejoined the Register: The XK120 roadster with wires is quite rare as they are normally seen with steel wheels and spats. Across from the Jag is an Aston Martin DB2 (not a DB 2/4 which had higher headlights) possibly a light weight race version with Vantage engine. Front row WO Bentleys R to L are a pair of 3 litres and a 4.5 litre with Vanden Plas body which all these years later remains known in UK Bentley circles. The race looks to be a handicap with the rapid C Type Jag last away. Viv has also sent a photo of the 4.5 litre Bentley

Neil Tribe has observed: I notice the red Doretti and green Healey appear to have the same front bumber with the overriders in different positions to account for the differing grill shapes. This is probably a well known fact but one I have only just discovered!

The Webmaster: notices that the TR2 is seeking some clean air for the carbys via the missing o/s headlight - not uncommon. And the 4.5 litre Bentley has had some considerable body changes since '56.

This one is from member Neville Turbit:
This is my first TR during restoration. This picture comes with a warning. Eyesight may be damaged. I can only justify it by saying it was the swinging sixties, and there were drugs involved.

The chassis was a delicate shade of orange. Engine was iridescent green. Of course you painted a few of the bolt on bits red for contrast. There was enough chrome to make most Yank Tanks of the era blush including a chrome diff cover. Body ended up yellow. Did I mention that inner guards were red, and the brake drums bright yellow? Where is the creativity in recent restorations!!!!

Michael Jaques says:
I just found this is a picture taken on the way to the Albury Concourse 2016 - in Holbrook. Unfortunately I did not take down subs details so have done a brief Google look. Holbrook's vision of erecting a fitting memorial to Australian submariners has become a reality. Following the Navy's gift of the decommisioned OTWAY's 'fin' in 1995, a submarine working party was formed to investigate ways of obtaining a real submarine and overseeing its erection”

John McCormack adds: "I was Commanding Officer of HMAS PLATYPUS in Sydney at the time and Sue and I were in the official party at the memorials dedication. I got to visit Holbrook a few times with the submariners in my time as CO

The actual venue used in the middle of the city was much better with great public exposure.

Founding Member and Life Member Alan Mitchell gave an interesting talk about the conditions which led to the formation of the Register. Both he and Life Member John Murn were the prime movers and were ably assisted by other pioneering members.

Alan performed the ceremonial cutting of the cake which was a tribute to the first 40 Years as well as to Kerrie Holliday's skills in creating the cake!
