Mychael Carr (Vic) TR3A
1958 Model - Commission No. TS 37635

In Memory of Mychael Carr who passed away - July 2013.
He is seen here with his pride and joy. The following is a tribute from the club.
"It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of long time Victorian club member Mychael (Mike) Carr.
Mike had been seriously ill for some time, but we had expected him to soldier on, so the news was indeed a shock.
Mike was a lifelong passionate lover of sidescreen TR's with a huge collection of memorabilia and every TR book written.
His dismantled TR3A "Casper" recently went to a new custodian for re-assembly and Mike reluctantly chose a bug-eye Sprite to replace it so he could immediately resume open top motoring.
Mike served the club in the early 80's as its first Victorian Secretary, thus laying the foundations for the ongoing growth and success of the membership in Victoria.
On behalf of President Geoff, State Co-ordinator John Johnson and the members who knew Mike, our sincere condolences to his partner Donita and the family". Viv Paine

The late Mychael (Mike) Carr was an enthusiast to the end.
This is the casket he selected before his untimely death.
Presented with the kind permission of his partner Donita - to whom we offer
sincere condolences from the TR Register, Australia.

Mike wanted to return home in a TR. Viv Paine went down with Donita to collect his ashes.
When we arrived home Donita took this pic with him sitting on the bonnet.

Here is some detail on Mike's car in his own words:

TR-003 was first registered as GXF-433. It was built on 16th October 1958 and was first owned by John O'Neil of Korumburra.
The original color was Phantom Grey with blue vinyl interior. Wire wheels and overdrive were fitted. Subsequent owners were:

  • David Haywood of Balwyn as LBY-802
  • Douglas Rochlin of Hawthorn as LDA-034
  • Howard Hinde of Mount Eliza as IOZ-757

The car was then purchased by Chris Lermanis who owned it for many years before I bought it (my 2nd TR) in Jan 2005. It is not known when the color was changed as the car was white when Chris owned it however he changed the trim from blue to red. Other items that were incorrect on the car are TR2 seats and doors from a later model sidescreen car and most of the minor gauges were wrong.
I've now had the car re-painted in it's White/Red livery and a louvered bonnet fitted. All the correct gauges have been sourced and fitted and I've done an extensive mechanical overhaul/upgrade. The car now has an alloy fuel tank, rocker cover, radiator and sump. Electronic ignition, extractors and TR4 inlet manifold finish off the engine mods.

There is an original Judson Supercharger to be overhauled and installed at a later date. The car still needs to be re-trimmed and requires more detailing. Other planned projects are period reversing and driving lights, tow-bar and rear wheel spats. I average about 100miles a week of use.
