STAGE 4: progress on chassis

Assembly to date 18 Sept 2002 - FRONT END

As anticipated, I'm well behind schedule. I have renewed the front brake assemblies (stainless steel sleeves and new seals) and have fitted new wheel bearings to the hubs. The new shocks have now arrived from Club Spares so it is now only a matter of fitting the springs, shocks, lower plates and hubs.
I'll do this after the rear end is complete. When dismantling I found there were no front hub grease catchers. As I have been unable to locate any in Australia it will be re-assembled with out these so I hope the new hub seals do their job!

REAR END

On dismantling the rear end I found a taper collar on the axle on the passengers side had been lost and never replaced. The brake components are currently being bead blasted prior to replacement/sleeving, as required, and I am about to order the collar, new seals for the axles and diff pinion and rubber boots for the handbrake. I have yet to arrange refurbishment of the rear shocks.

On completion of the front and rear ends I intend to true the wire wheels and sit the car back on the deck. I'll then weigh the chassis up to get it sitting 'right' prior to starting work on the firewall (currently in 2 pieces due to rust!!)

Slow going, but I'll keep you informed. (18 Sep 2002)
