Bob Watters sent this report: "Despite the predictions for the wildest weather for the year six hardy couples set off for a visit to the Crookwell Potato Festival. Four couples from Sydney, the McCormacks, the Richards, the Dobes and the Hicks joined Susie and Ian Wall from Nowra along with Cherryle and Bob Watters from the Sapphire Coast Chapter. Fortunately the worst of the weather occurred on the Friday with snow falling in Crookwell but Saturday dawned mainly fine but still cold. The group were joined at the Crookwell Showgrounds by Allan Mitchell and Chris Olson who made the trip across from Orange and Bathurst for the day. After sampling the delights and touring the exhibits the group headed for the overnight accommodation at Markdale Homestead. The group stayed in two stone cottages built in the 1850's and a very enjoyable night was spent tasting a few wines in front of the roaring fire, dinner was delivered by a local caterer along with breakfast supplies. Sunday morning dawned fine and clear and after a hearty breakfast the group took a comfortable stroll to the main homestead building to view the award winning Edna Walling garden. After a few of the more energetic members showed their prowess on the tennis court and the obligatory photograph it was time to head for home. Thanks to the organisers, Jenny Hicks for the suggestion and John and Sue McCormack for making it happen.
