50th Anniversary Event
Sydney
3 of the cars that made the full recreation of the run 50 years ago. Red 3A John Murn and my TR2, both cars and drivers on the run 50 years ago. Jim Allen and Sue Halloran in Jim’s TR2 with 3 grille which he has owned since 1964 and Rowan and Hayley Burns in their white 3A.
3 others including 2 originals Roger Gates and Keith Manion couldn’t make it at the last minute due unforeseen issues.
The other photos are this morning of those who stayed overnight in Camden before we headed off. Russell and Kerrie Holliday in their BRG 3A, Darryl and Cheryl Dobe yellow TR3, Ian and Susie Wall pearl TR3, the Burns 3A, Terry and Jenny Hicks powder blue 3A, our TR2, Andrew and Jenny Ross white TR4 (TR3A being repaired).
We had a great turnout at the Norman Lindsay gallery. The other original, Alan Mitchell, lives in Orange so couldn’t participate in the original recreation but was at the gallery. We had 12 or 13 members cars at the gallery where we had a great day. The drive up over the 50 years ago route revealed lots of changes over that time but the run up the old windy roads up the mountain had John Murn and I reliving old days.
Victoria and South Australia Run to Port Fairy
A large contingent people from Victoria made their way to Port Fairy and met up with a small group from South Australia and a few locals to celebrate the 50th anniversary run. The weekend was filled with gun fights in the hotel hallway, bar room brawls and mysterious deaths, fortunately none of them relating to the TR group but rather past patrons and owners of Seacombe House in which we were staying. It appears that a few of these people have taken up permanent residence at the house and the hotel manager Christine was able to provide some interesting information relating to the history.
The group of 35 Victorians, 4 South Australians and 2 Queenslanders mostly arrived on the Saturday and a fabulous meal was provided by local restaurant Zest. Sunday commenced at the Tony’s and Lesley’s house where we had a look at the tin shed where they had a couple of cars. Most of the group then headed to the Eastern Beach for a photo opportunity and lunch at Charlie’s on East before we all headed our different directions.
Tony and Lesley organised the never ending pizza meal at The Stump, the oldest continuously licensed hotel in Australia! Another great night with great food and better company.
A worthy weekend celebration. Thanks to the organisers David and Jenny Ferguson and Tony and Lesley Xerri!
Queensland Sunshine Coast
We held a weekend event with a formal lunch at the Northern Grounds Hotel in Diddillibah on the Sunshine Coast. We had 33 members for lunch. Several drives were organised into the hinterland through Maleny, Montville and Kenilworth. Lovely celebrations and weekend had by all.
